Family Night Activities

Whether you’re looking for a Family Night activity indoors, outdoors, or one that takes you away, here are some great ideas to get you started.

Indoor Activities:

  • Have a family slumber party.
  • Build a fort.
  • Get out the family photo albums.
  • Research your family history.
  • Clean the house together.
  • Make a collage out of pictures from old/unused magazines.
  • Draw pictures of members of your family. (and possibly hang them up!)
  • Make a family calendar.
  • Write letters to grandparents or a pen-pal.
  • Tell scary stories (with the lights out).
  • Learn to play the guitar together.
  • Organize a 72 hour kit.
  • Learn sign language.
  • Take treats to your neighbors or friends.
  • Learn about a different culture and make a meal based on it.
  • Do a rain dance.
  • Create a family budget and plan for a vacation.
  • Start a family collection. (coins, stories, rocks, treasures).
  • Talk about the dangers of drugs/alcohol.
  • Have a craft night – sewing, painting, etc.

Outdoor Activities:

  • Wash the dog. (A neighbor’s dog if you don’t have one!)
  • Play stickball.
  • Play hopscotch. (and you’re never too old to play)
  • Fly kites.
  • Snow in your area? Go sledding and/or make a snowman.
  • Set up a lemonade stand on a warm day.
  • Shoot hoops together. Play H.O.R.S.E or Around the world.
  • Tell stories around a campfire. (Or a BBQ?)
  • Organize a game of capture the flag.
  • Play freeze-tag.
  • Play broom ball.
  • Go for a hike.
  • Go for a bike ride (or roller blade) together.
  • Organize a community clean-up.
  • Learn how to use a compass.
  • Learn how to Geocache.
  • Plant a tree or some flowers or a garden.
  • Go swimming – and learn a new stroke.
  • Go on a long drive – explore your city/outdoors.
  • Get some sleeping bags and have a star gazing evening.
  • Go fishing.
  • Play touch football.
  • Climb a tree.
  • Make some smores around a campfire.

Places to go

  • Go to your local zoo.
  • Visit local community and/or parks.
  • Visit the Genealogical library.
  • Make up a play and take it to a nursing home.
  • Go get ice cream.
  • Attend a community concert.
  • Visit your local library.
  • Go to a meuseum.
  • Go dancing or learn to dance from a local college/group.
  • Go to a baseball/basketball/football game.
